Shelby...Brad called...he LOVES your pictures:)

Zionsville Senior Photography

Now Miss Shelby took a few minutes to warm up and work herself into the "straight face", which usually ended with her cracking up, however; she worked it all out FANTASTICALLY!!! Shelby you are adorable and so sweet to work with. The fact that you're a country music fan, and mentioned Brad Paisley first, is alright. I do love Brad but after seeing Keith Urban again this past weekend....WOWSER!!! Sorry....back to Shelby.

Great outfits, lovely smile, wonderful girl...put them all together and this is what you get. BAM!

Lovely smiles on the left....simmering look on the right:)

Thank you Cindy and Shelby for a fun afternoon. I love what I do and it's my clients who make it that way:)

Don't wait.....

Zionsville Family Photography

I remember a long time ago a conversation that I had with my mother. It wasn't necessarily a conversation as much as it was a screaming/crying/all out bawling fest. It was a few months after my father had died and my mother was yelling at me with bulging, tear-stained eyes that I didn't understand her grief. I couldn't understand it. And I told her, "You're right. I don't understand....I lost my father. I didn't lose my husband of twenty-seven years, you did". It was at that distinct moment that I recall learning another of life's huge lessons. Everyone's grief is different....no two people grieve the same.

It has been nearly two years since I photographed The Williams Family. When I did so, Dr. Williams was battling cancer....and giving it quite a fight. Sadly, Steve Williams succumbed to the evil disease that took my father as well.

So I was thrilled recently when Kay Williams emailed to say that she wanted updated family photos taken. She wanted photos that showed her family's current life, after Steve, and I couldn't have been more thrilled. Kay was married to a man who loved to laugh.....and now, nearly two years later, she was enjoying that laughter again. I know Kay would tell you if she could, (she's so quiet and shy it would be hard for her)....she would tell you.....

"DON"T WAIT TO TAKE THOSE FAMILY PHOTOS, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S AROUND THE BEND!!"

Her family today....

Caroline and Thomas.....

Miss Caroline....see, you look cute when you strut your stuff!!

Strong, independent.....and piggyback rides:)

The momma shots.....

Their mother will do almost anything for a laugh......

Discussing dinner plans....Sushi? Cobblestone? McDonald's?

What I want everyone to understand, is that we all can come up with great reasons not be photographed...."I would love to lose a few pounds" ...or "I just can't find the time to get everyone together"....or, "Maybe when the weather gets better". I've heard it all. I've also heard all the comments after the photo shoots, "I'm so glad we did this"...or "We haven't had photos done for ten years and now I love looking at those images". What are you waiting for...call me.

There is laughter after grief....thank you for sharing that life lesson with me Kay. When I was editing the images, I came across this "tree poem" that I think sums up your spirit.

Think Like a Tree
by Karen I. Shragg

Soak up the sun
Affirm life's magic
Be graceful in the wind
Stand tall after a storm
Feel refreshed after it rains
Grow strong without notice
Be prepared for each season
Provide shelter to strangers
Hang tough through a cold spell
Emerge renewed at the first signs of spring
Stay deeply rooted while reaching for the sky
Be still long enough to
hear your own leaves rustling.

Dear Heidi

Zionsville Senior Photography

Dear Heidi,
I know you have probably checked this blog 3,492 times today to see if I posted your images:) I wanted you to know that I learned an amazing lesson yesterday as we walked around the museum grounds. You taught me that a HUGE spirit can be packed into a beautiful young woman. Your story........

Heidi was born weighing in at 13 oz. You read that correctly folks. Thirteen ounces. Over the next year in the hospital, Heidi would become stronger and eventually her parents would take her home. They would spend the next seventeen years raising Heidi to become the strong, caring, and kind young woman she is. As Heidi begins her senior year of high school she is enrolled in numerous classes that begin at the crack of dawn. Her day progresses later into the afternoon and then she heads off to track where she focuses on the 100 and 200 meter. When she isn't training for her team she can be found managing the cross country team. And because I know her family...and I've been stalking your Facebook page....I also know that she is active in her Lutheran religion. All of these things are what make Heidi who she is and there is soooo much more. She is a color coordinated queen and a pro at putting very stylish outfits together. From the earrings in her ears to the shoes on her feet, this girl was perfection:)

Heidi, you are a lovely young woman and I am honored to be your photographer. I enjoyed my afternoon with your mom, you and your HUGE spirit!

The last image is a favorite...... just because you tried so hard to give me the "serious" face, and you did! You were just meant to smile though:) See you soon.

Favorite Color: Fuschia
Favorite Music: Anything Country and Contemporary Christian
Favorite Book: The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boyton (Heidi's dad set the book to music and would sing it to her at night)

They grow up so....sniff...sniff....fast!

Zionsville Senior Photography

I have to throw out the first three pictures as a look back....Chad and his buddies from Eagle Elementary were such a great group of kids. And now that he and my son....along with the rest of their classmates....are seniors this year, I can't help but ask, "WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THE TIME GO!!!" Seriously. It really does feel like yesterday that they were all entering school. I can't believe that we are at senior year. (This is where the sniffles come in.....sniff) So as the next few months go on I know that I will see plenty of those Eagle/Pleasantview kids that played soccer, baseball and basketball together. And I'm really looking forward to it.

Basketball circa January 2001

Soccer Spring 2001

Eagle Elementary, May 2002....Itty Bitty 500. (note my child has his eyes closed for the photograph!)

Chad circa 2010:) Chad has played soccer these many years and will play his last season with the Zionsville Eagles this year. He just returned from a six week immersion program in Spain with the Indiana University Honors Program. He is an accomplished piano player and a good cook! Ladies are we paying attention??? Stellar good looks can't hurt either, right?

When I suggested going out to the farm Chad was a bit reluctant. Once he realized I was going to have him go romping through wheat fields, he was just fine:)

Yup....your mother was right. Blue does look good on you!

The accomplished piano player. And Chad...don't forget to check out the music from "LOST"...it really does sound like that Ben Folds tune.

These images crack me up....I said something about Abercrombie and his mom started laughing and said, "Chad do the Abercrombie look!" He started doing the smooth moves and I am surprised the images came out since I was laughing so hard!!! I'm not sure if you look sexy or you have a headache!!! HA!

And finally...after we had completed Chad's shoot his mom insisted that I have lunch with them. Chad was whipping up a few items (he doesn't really wear the apron...he was making his mother happy)....and I have to say, Chad's family has now set the bar for how to take care of your photographer:) If anyone else would like to try and top them, please feel free to try!!!
Thank you Chad and Anne. It was wonderful seeing both of you and catching up on our lives. I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
